What LangTurbo is

A way to listen to podcasts in a language you are learning and read what is being said, line by line, with the English underneath and a definition for any word you tap.

The podcasts are not ours. They are published by other people, we read their public feeds, and your device downloads the audio from them directly. What we add is the transcript, the translation and the definitions. A show can change its feed or stop publishing at any time, and when it does the episode goes from here too.

Your account

An account is an email address and nothing else — there is no password, so whoever can read your mail can sign in as you. Keep the address secure. One account is one person; do not share it.

You must be old enough to agree to these terms where you live, and at least 13.

The subscription

One subscription, billed yearly or monthly as you choose, with a free trial for new subscribers. The price, the billing period and the length of the trial are shown before you buy and are the ones that apply.

It renews automatically at the end of each billing period — every year or every month, whichever you chose — until you stop it. The trial ends by becoming the first charge, on the date the screen you bought it on names. Cancelling during the trial costs nothing.

To stop it, go to the store you bought it from. On an iPhone or iPad that is Settings → your name → Subscriptions; on Android it is Google Play → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions. The account screen in the app opens the same place. Cancelling takes effect at the end of the period you have paid for, and you keep access until then.

Refunds are Apple’s or Google’s to give, whichever took the payment, through their own request process. We cannot issue one, because the payment was never ours to take.

Buying through the App Store or Google Play

A subscription bought in the iOS app is a purchase from Apple, and Apple’s standard licence terms apply to it alongside these. One bought in the Android app is a purchase through Google Play, and the Google Play Terms of Service apply to it alongside these. Where a store’s terms and these disagree about a purchase made through that store, the store’s win.

Fair use

Transcribing an hour of audio and explaining the words in it costs real money each time, and the whole design is that it is done once and shared: the second person to open an episode pays for nothing. Use the app to listen and to learn. Do not script it, resell what it produces, or run it at a volume no person could listen to — we may cut off an account doing that.

What we do not promise

Transcripts and definitions are produced by machines and are sometimes wrong. They are a study aid, not a translation you should rely on for anything that matters.

The service is provided as it is. We do not promise it will be uninterrupted, that any particular show will stay in the catalogue, or that a publisher’s server will answer. Where the law allows, our liability is limited to what you have paid us in the last twelve months.

Ending it

You can stop paying at any time, and you can delete your account and everything under it yourself, from the Account screen in the app — Privacy says what goes and what happens to a subscription. We may close an account that is breaking these terms, and will say why.
